The Challenge
​​Preserving the USS Midway’s lifeboat pods was no small feat. Decades of exposure to the sun, salt air, and sea had taken their toll, leaving the original structures weathered and brittle. Restoring them required a careful balance between authenticity and endurance, maintaining the historical integrity of the design while ensuring the new materials could withstand the elements for generations to come. Every curve, contour, and surface had to be recreated with precision, capturing the character of the originals while breathing new life into their form. The process became not just a technical challenge, but a tribute to the enduring spirit of craftsmanship and preservation that keeps the USS Midway’s story alive.
The Results​

The finished lifeboat pods turned out fantastic. What was once weathered and worn is now fresh, strong, and built to last. Each pod looks right at home on the USS Midway again, clean, sturdy, and true to the ship’s original character. Seeing them restored to their former glory was incredibly rewarding; it’s a reminder of how a little craftsmanship and attention to detail can bring history back to life. The transformation not only gave the pods new life but also added another beautiful touch to one of America’s most iconic ships.
