There are many varieties of acrylic materials that fall into the "plastics" category of products and these materials have served the needs of many industries for decades. These materials offer clarity, optical quality, long life and ease of fabrication and are available in a wide variety of sizes, thicknesses and colors. Both cast and extrusion technologies make this material a viable option for many applications including displays, signs, skylights, windows and safety guards to name a few.
Acrylics are available in formulations to meet the requirements of unique applications such as mar resistance, impact strength and static dissipative qualities. These materials are produced in sheet, rod and tube variations. They offer rigidity, strength and stiffness; greater safety than annealed glass with half the weight and have an excellent UV and weather resistance. Ask our experts to explain the best material choice for your application. |

BENDING/FORMINGThe shape of sheet or flat thermoplastics can be changed – bent – by several processes to achieve pattern specifications without seams. Specific machines or equipment are required to heat the plastic material in order to render it pliable enough to accomplish a successful bend technique. Bending methods include Straight line bending, Heat Oven for full size sheets, Thermal forming and Vacuum Forming. We most frequently use the straight line and oven methods. |
POLISHING/BUFFINGPolishing creates a bright, glass-like finish to the plastic material. Polishing techniques are generally applied to the cut or edged edges of the material by hand, flamed or solvent edges. This gives the plastic a finished appearance that is attractive for displays, table tops and shelving to name a few.
The polishing technique can be further enhanced by buffing which requires more hand work using various types of buffing equipment plus polishing compounds. Buffing is also used to diminish scratches or other defects on acrylic surfaces. Sanding softens edges or creates a “frosted” effect where desired. |
DRILLING/ROUTINGDrilling into acrylic or any other plastic material is common but requires some knowledge and experience to prevent cracking, chipping, burning or uneven hole integrity to the material in the process. Methods of drilling include Hand, Machine press, CNC and Laser. Most any size hole through any thickness of material (our stock) is possible. |
PRECISION CUTTINGOur normal saw cutting tolerance is +/- .030. High tolerance cutting is +/- .005. Machine or CNC cutting is +/- .001. Whatever the required tolerance or degree of perfection, we can usually attain it for you with our machinery and technical experience. |
